Morning Briefing: New Drill Results from G2 Goldfields, Kirkland Lake Discoveries and More
Good morning and welcome back to the Mining Stock Daily morning briefing.
It's Monday, May 4.
Gold is pulling back to start the week, with the front month contract at $4,567 an ounce. Silver is at $73.80 and copper is at $5.89 a pound.
Brent crude is around $107 a barrel this morning, pulling back from Friday's levels above $111 as the front month contract rolls. The big development over the weekend was Trump's announcement of Project Freedom — a US military operation to escort neutral merchant vessels through the Strait of Hormuz using destroyers, over 100 aircraft, and roughly 15,000 service members. To be clear about what this is and isn't: Project Freedom is not a ceasefire, not a peace deal, and not a resolution to the conflict. It is a military convoy operation for ships from countries uninvolved in the fighting that have been stranded in the strait for months. The situation escalated this morning when Iran's state media claimed two missiles struck a US warship near Jask Island. The US military denied it — CENTCOM confirmed no ship was hit. Iran says it turned back a US vessel with warnings. Whatever the precise facts of this morning's incident, the broader message is clear: the Strait of Hormuz remains a live conflict zone, and Project Freedom is operating in active contested waters. Gold is off modestly this morning, which may reflect some near-term uncertainty about what the convoy operation means for commodity flows, but the geopolitical picture is anything but resolved.
We’ll get to the news from the miners and explorers in just a moment, but first a word about today’s sponsor.

And here's what you need to know this morning…..
G2 Goldfields has released new drill results from the OKO project in Guyana, with hole GDD277B returning 84.5 metres at 3.0 grams per tonne gold from 915 metres depth — the deepest intercept ever recorded at OKO — including 6.0 metres at 13.4 grams per tonne and 16.4 metres at 4.5 grams per tonne. The result extends known mineralization an additional 140 metres vertically, pushing the system to 1 kilometre depth where it remains open. Infill drilling also delivered strong results, with hole GDD270 returning 20.8 metres at 9.6 grams per tonne gold including 4.4 metres at 36.1 grams per tonne, and GDD265W1 extending the resource an additional 50 metres with a high-grade interval of 3.0 metres at 10.8 grams per tonne. Eight rigs are active at OKO across infill, expansion, and discovery drilling. Note that G2 is in the process of being acquired by G Mining Ventures following the definitive agreement announced in April (TSX: GTWO, OTCQX: GUYGF). News Release
Kirkland Lake Discoveries has reported a step-out drill result at the Mirado gold project in Ontario's Kirkland Lake Camp, intersecting 50.3 metres of continuous mineralization including 39.35 grams per tonne gold over 16.4 metres in a 40-metre step-out hole. The result demonstrates meaningful grade concentration within the broader zone of continuous gold mineralization that Kirkland Lake Discoveries has been building out at Mirado. Six additional holes are pending assay results (TSX-V: KLDC, OTCQX: KLKLF). News Release
Power Metallic Mines has reported new infill drill results from the Lion Zone at its project in Ontario, with hole 26-094 intersecting 17.45 metres at 9.47% copper equivalent recoverable, including 6.30 metres at 17.91% CuEqRec, and hole 26-101 returning 39 metres at 5.66% CuEqRec. The drilling is part of an infill campaign designed to define the Lion Zone in preparation for a Mineral Resource Estimate in 2026, with the program covering approximately 200 metres of strike length at roughly 100 metres below surface (TSX-V: PNPN, OTCQB: PNPNF). News Release
Awalé Resources has announced a new gold discovery on 100%-owned ground at the Odienné Project in Côte d'Ivoire, with multiple shallow intercepts including a headline result of 17 metres at 1.9 grams per tonne gold. The discovery is on ground wholly owned by Awalé, separate from the joint venture with Newmont. Awalé launched a C$8 million, 15,000-metre drill program earlier this year targeting new discoveries across its 100%-owned permits at Odienné (TSX-V: ARIC, OTCQX: AWLRF). News Release
American Pacific Mining has engaged two drill contractors ahead of a fully funded 15,000-metre program at the Madison Copper-Gold Project in Montana — the largest coordinated drill campaign the company has initiated at Madison. O'Keefe Drilling of Butte, Montana will handle the reverse circulation portion, and NISS Drilling Services of Kellogg, Idaho will conduct the diamond core drilling. The program is designed to extend shallow high-grade copper-gold mineralization and test deeper porphyry targets, with drilling scheduled to commence in May (CSE: USGD, OTCQX: USGDF). News Release
K2 Gold has staked a new 21,887-hectare district-scale gold project in west-central Yukon Territory, named the Wolf Project, located approximately 80 kilometres south of the 3.0 million ounce Coffee Gold Project. An initial reconnaissance program is planned for the 2026 field season, including LiDAR data collection, soil sampling, geological mapping, and prospecting across priority targets (TSX-V: KTO, OTCQX: KTGDF). News Release
Magna Mining has received conditional approval from the Toronto Stock Exchange to graduate from the TSX Venture Exchange to the TSX main board. The company is a base metals producer focused on the Sudbury, Ontario mining camp, where it operates the Shakespeare nickel-copper-cobalt mine and is advancing the Crean Hill Mine. The graduation to the TSX main board reflects the company's transition from developer to producer (TSX: NICU, OTCQB: MGMNF). News Release
